Daos Travel Back to 1347

Who doesn’t love a good plague? Actually, the answer is everyone. But in order to fully understand what it must have been like in the middle ages, one must factor in a global plague. Sadly, like the personas we are recreating in the SCA, we are quickly discovering that a plague sucks and one cannot do anything other than look at the four walls and hope it blows by quickly without harm to family or friends.

However, fear not, for unlike our SCA personas, we have modern systems in place to keep away the isolation! If you are a household member, please contact Scott, Brew or Eden to get access to the Daos Discord service. We will be using this to organize online gaming, socially-distanced conversations and household meetings.

I hope to see everyone later in the year!

Eden, Zealot Oracle of House Daos

Jun 24 2019

We have a Daos Prince AND New Members!

House Daos welcomed their first royalty during Summits Investiture on June 22nd, 2019! Anton (SCA: Antoine) and his consort, Princess Kathren, ascended the Alpine thrones. They will reign for the next 6 months. Several Daos members have agreed to assist them during their reign, including Eden the Mad who became the royal alpine scribe. At Investiture we also welcomed THREE new members, our former Minions – Eleanor, Rhys and Daria. They were most fashionable lepers and as this was a small event, they did a long marathon session. All-in-all Summits Investiture was a grand celebration of House Daos, past, present and future!

2018 In Review, 2019 Events and CONGRATULATIONS ANTON!

Anton and Kathren

Apparently it’s been awhile since we’ve updated, so here goes…

2018 was a GREAT YEAR for House Daos and 2019 is looking to be even better! To recap – last year the household attended Egils, Stormgods, Autumn War and Bunghole as major events, and we attended several more Daos Light events and feasts. Inside House Daos Kahlia, Fisher, John and Tavia all became members, and Spunky rejoined! Molly also completed her Zealous year and achieved her stole by competing in the “Zealot race” with tasks such as a blindfolded taste test (aka “what liquid is this?”) as well as acting out the role of ‘Molly’ in a bastardized version of the Lay of Thrym. Congratulations are due to Scott, who is our new Prophet! We also found, at long last, Roselan the Lost. Even a name change to Vivian and the addition of a daughter, Emma, wasn’t enough to hide her from the watchful eye of the Inquisition! We are thrilled to welcome Vivian (aka Shannon) back into the fold and look forward to her new persona joining the household.

Outside of the household, our members received much recognition within the SCA. Highlights include:

  • Anne of Daos received her AoA
  • William of Daos received his AoA
  • Bronwyn received her AoA
  • Efa Ystalwyn received her AoA
  • Taliesin Ystalwyn received his AoA
  • Red Molly the Black received her AoA
  • Michael SinClaire received his Goutte de Sang
  • Eden the Mad received her Jambe de Lion
  • Antonious Rath won Prince of the Summits (AS 54)

Which brings me to say… CONGRATULATIONS ANTON!! That’s right…A Daos will be Prince! The populace (those that know us) are both amused and alarmed. I’m sure it will be JUST. FINE.

House Daos will be attending, en mass, the following events:

  • Egils
  • Summits Investiture (where we will help Anton get crowned and then throw a big party!)
  • Game of Thrones and Stormgods
  • Autumn War
  • Bunghole

25th anniversary at Egils was a success!

Daos 25 Year

It was the perfect weekend – sunny and warm with a slight breeze. The camp was beautifully setup by our castellan Scott, and there was room for all 30+ people, their tents and dayshades. Friday night we hosted yet another successful Feast of Saint Randy, and many people from the populace came and visited with us! On Saturday we were visited by a roving court (if the Daos won’t go to court, then the court must come to Daos), then we hosted an extremely successful Inquisition Variety Gong Show, with over 100 people attending. A special Thank You to our amazing cast who really pulled out their ‘A-Game’, and thank you to Anton and Dorian who kept the comedy going during the transitions. On Sunday we initiated our newest household member, Sylva Ystalwyn (aka Kahlia), and finished off the day with the best potluck feast I have ever eaten! I swear, eventing with the Daos gets better and better every year!

Special congratulations go to:

Sylva Ystalwyn, our new household member
Stolly for ascending to Apostle
Brownyn for ascending to Disciple
Efa Ystalwyn for her Golden Torc award
Taliesin Ystalwyn for his Golden Torc award
Michael Sinclaire for his SCA awards: Friend of the Summits, Golden Torc, Bell & Chain
Eden the Mad for her SCA awards: Friend of the Summits, Golden Torc, Bell & Chain

I am really looking forward to the next Daos events!

Game of Thrones & Stormgods – highlights will include Feast of Saint Randy Appitizer Contest, and some new party games during the Stormdrunk competition

Bunghole – we’ve got plans, many plans

Autumn War – Red Molly the Black and her team have an amazing feast planned! There will also be combat for our new fighters. Yay!
